McDougall United Church -Friday Night, March 17  $30.00

JOHN KADLECIK is one of the foremost interpreters of the songbook of the Grateful Dead, but he is also a superior guitarist, fine singer, and songwriter. Kadlecik’s musical journeys have included his founding member status of The Dark Star Orchestra, his work with Phil Lesh and Bob Weir in their Further project and as an ongoing member of JGB with onetime Garcia organ player Melvin Seals. John will be performing solo at McDougall. Opening the show will be the Terrapin String Quartet as led by the McDades Shannon Johnson and the quartet will be performing string arrangement of tunes ranging from The Grateful Dead to The Beatles.

Chateau Lacombe Hotel Main Ballroom – Friday Night, March 17  $30.00

The McGowan Family Band will kick open the ballroom doors with a set of Grateful Dead material that criss-crosses the vast Dead songbook. The evening will continue with some blues basted songs that the Dead and associates covered for years and expect some Dylan and highly danceable tunes to make their way into the mix as the night unfolds with guests ranging from MonkeyJunk’s Tony D to David Gans and Joe Craven.

McDougall United Church – Saturday Night March 18   $30.00

Chris & Sally Jones kick off a special evening of acoustic music with a mix of originals and bluegrass gems. It’s been far too long since Chris has played a concert in Edmonton, and he is one of the bluegrass champions of his generation and this adds another musical dimension to Dead Ends Live. Closing out the night will be David Gans and Joe Craven who left the first Dead Ends festival as a new duo. The two musicians bring their wealth of experience working with the likes of Phil Lesh and Jerry Garcia and other members of the Dead community, and they’ll roll it all into The Songbook of Jerry Garcia for what is guaranteed to be a rare treat in this part of the world.

Chateau Lacombe Hotel Main Ballroom – Saturday Night, March 18  $30.00

Mbira Renaissance Band are a great groove band who are a truly unique local musical troupe. It’s hard not to dance to this crew and the infectious positive spirit of Mbira will immediately energize everyone once the band hits the stage to open the Saturday night ballroom show. John Kadlecik will join Dave Babcock’s ensemble for some electric Garcia and Dead material in the second set. Guests will float in and out of the mix as many of the musicians on the Dead Ends bill will also get a shot at dispensing material from the vast catalogues of the Grateful Dead and their peers and heroes.

SINGLE WORKSHOP TICKETS

ROOTS OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD

A Roots of the Grateful Dead workshop follows the Fiddle Summit in McDougall. Hosted by John Hewitt, the set will pinpoint some of the influential sounds and artists of the Grateful Dead. Everything from New Orleans piano gems to acoustic blues ala Lightnin’ Hopkins and pieces from the traditional folk book of the U.K. will be rolled out by a cast that includes bluegrass great Chris & Sally Jones, cellist Christine Hanson and bluesmen Rooster Davis and Tony D.
